Right Wing…Left Wing…No Wings… But still flying.

Why?

I started this as a launchboard for honest thought & reflection… Ok, Ok… A catchbasin for chronic verbal diahrrea.

Why Wingless? How do you expect to fly?

I refuse to be typecast nor conform to one idealogy simply so that I could call myself left or right wing. So very few trully fit the archetype of either but too many (whether it’s because our mother’s did not hold us enough or we want to be part of a big “gang”…) mindlessly & whole-heartedly subscribe & wrecklessly define themselves according to their ”wing”.

We were given a mind to think & a mouth (& fingers) to express that inner voice.

Wingless is a state of honest reflection, without allegiance or apology.

So what does all this mean?

I am “conservative” on issues of security, politics & economics. I think the Left has it all wrong when it comes to their views on wealth & business. To say it plain: profit is NOT evil!

When I was younger I fell hard for the Proletariat mindset. I even identified myself as a Marxist for a short while. Then one day, as I was falling to sleep (that point between wakefullness and sleep is the closest to genius most of us will ever come… Probably the greatest inventions, philosophies & achievements of mankind were hatched in this state ;-) ) the question came to me:

At one point does “driven young entrepreneur” become “evil, greedy, bourgeois exploiter”… At what point in one’s career does one become evil? i.e. is it at $50,000, $100,000, 1 million?

It was right then and there that I realized Marx’s formula was not that original, it had simply assigned a new vernacular & philosophical justification to the old & oft utilized act of scapegoating. I believe that entrepreurs & business people, aka Marx’s bourgois, are great contributors to the “greater good” for they create jobs & opportunity (and in turn jobs offer people & society a sense of purpose & empowerment). I believe they make great sacrifices in this endeavour as there are few millionaires that work a 9 to 5. I believe all or at least most of us have the freedom & ability to choose a path of financial wealth. However, most of us are either unwilling or unable to assume the requisite risks & sacrifices.

I believe in small government and that government should meddle in as little of our lives as possible! That the constitution of a free country need only be made up of these few words:

One has the right to do as he/she pleases so long as he/she does not infringe upon other’s rights to do the same.

I believe that all drugs, sexual practices (between consenting adults), & religions (so long as they allow others to practice their own) be legalized. Besides the fact that outlawing these is a futile & expensive endeavour, the choice to endulge goes to the heart of liberty & self determination. If I go to work, pay my taxes, and look both ways before I cross the street then who is BIG GOV to tell me that I cannot chase-the-dragon-to-my-hearts content.

Finally, though I see the logic in the American Right’s opposition to public healthcare, I have seen it work! I have utilized free healthcare in both Canada & Israel and cannot fathom what my family would do if they had fallen on hard times during one of my legendary childhood asthma episodes. Considering a night in a hospital costs several thousands of dollars, I cannot see how even upper-Middle class families who have had their major breadwinner lose his/her job, can survive.

I have fallen hard times and I have seen people much more organized & driven that myself do the same, as such, I do believe a safety net is a requirement of a compassionate society.

That said – I tend to favour a hybrid system, the type the left vilify as ‘two tier’… LIFE IS TWO TIER, why shouldn’t those that have money be able to pay for better care?

At the end of the day it benefits everyone as it frees up spaces in the free hospitals (one need only see the lineups in Canada or Israel to understand this benefit).

That’s my honest reflection, without allegiance or apology. I am wingless.
